Everyday Heroes

Sometimes I think we forget to honor some of the real heroes in our world. I came across an Daily Local News article today that reminded me of four local heroes. The first is Betsy Ney. Betsy is a 51 year old hero who requires a bit more help than most of us. She felt stifled at her current position, but rather than complain, she reached out to our second hero, Patty Samms, her job coach.

Patty who realizes that Betsy deserves an opportunity to find work that allows Betsy to thrive rather than just exist, decided to take the next steps. Patty in her role at ARC of Chester County (our third hero) reached out to Heart Stone Coffee owner Peter Mike-Mayer to see if he would be interested in supporting Betsy’s dream. He was on board immediately! As a result, Betsy now has the job of her dreams. Peter has a valued employee, and Patty may be working herself out of a job.

Thank God for these everyday heroes. Without self-starters like Besty, supporters like Patty, support organizations like ARC and supportive individuals like Peter, the ending to this story could be very different.

There are many heroes like this in our world. Maybe we just need to be a bit more observant. What do you think. Do you have examples that need to be recognized. Please use the comments section to share your thoughts and examples.
